Kidney Stone Symptoms

Kidney stones can happen at any adult age and can be extremely inconvenient. If diagnosed early, it can be treated more quickly. About 13% of men and 7% of women experience kidney stones, and half of those who get a kidney stone will get it again. Make sure you know the symptoms and when to see a doctor.

Kidney stones can be extremely debilitating, causing extreme pain. The issue is that while forming in the kidney, there may be no signs or symptoms. Most people start experiencing these symptoms once the stone passes into the uterer (the tube connecting your kidney and bladder). Some common symptoms include:

  • Pain in the side and back
  • Pain in the lower abdomen and groin
  • Pain during urination
  • Discoloration of urine
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Frequent urination

When to See Dr. Siddiq for Kidney Stones

You may be experiencing one or two symptoms and think, “Should I see a doctor? Are my symptoms that bad?” You should make an appointment with Dr. Siddiq when you experience any of these symptoms for long periods of time. If you are worried about your symptoms and think you may have kidney stones, don’t hesitate to speak to Dr. Siddiq. You should especially seek a doctor if you experience:

  • Pain so extreme that it’s hard to move or get up
  • Blood in urine
  • Consistent nausea and vomiting in combination with urination symptoms

Dr. Siddiq will conduct an imaging test to diagnose you for kidney stones if they think symptoms warrant it. This can be done early on and can help treat it sooner. If you wait and end up having to go to the ER, they may conduct a CT scan which exposes you to more radiation. It’s better to get an appointment early on rather than wait until the last minute.
