urology doctorThe prostate is a small, muscular gland that is part of the male reproductive system. It slowly swells as a man gets older, squeezing the urethra and limiting the flow of urine. An enlarged prostate is known as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia or BPH.

Accompanying symptoms can be mild to severe and usually get worse over time. Diagnosis helps to rule out other more serious conditions and can help to manage the symptoms and treat the condition.

7 Symptoms of BPH

BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) is an enlarged prostate gland. The prostate gland surrounds the urethra and assists in reproduction. As men age, the prostate gets larger, in fact most older men have BPH to some degree and about half of men over 75 experience BPH symptoms. BPH is a very minor condition, and is not related to prostate cancer, however symptoms can cause discomfort and be inconvenient.
